About the Department

 

The Marine Hydrotechnics and Electronics Department deals with a broad range of marine hydraulic engineering issues, including littoral zone studies, coastal protection, and marine environmental protection, particularly concerning assessments, forecasts, and environmental impact reports for investments planned in the coastal zone, as well as marine electronics, particularly electromagnetic field measurements.

The Department's main activities are related to the dynamics of the marine coastal zone, monitoring of Polish coastlines, including forecasting the development of the coastal system under conditions of sea level rise and hydrodynamic activity, and research and analysis of exposure to harmful factors in the marine environment.

The Department actively develops and utilises numerical software and tools for numerical modelling projects. Topics include wave forecasting, including wave analysis in port aquatic areas, hydrodynamic and lithodynamic analyses in the coastal zone, the dispersion of suspended solids in the marine environment during underwater and dredging operations, and hydroacoustics.

The Marine Electronics Laboratory conducts measurements of electromagnetic radiation intensity for occupational health and safety and environmental protection purposes based on applicable regulations and standards within the scope for which the Department holds a certificate from the Polish Centre for Accreditation No. AB848.
