“AquaFOOD” - Potential for diversification and food production from aquatic ecosystems in south Baltic Region
The Economics and Spatial Policy Department is pleased to announce that the Maritime Institute at the Gdynia Maritime University is a partner in a new project approved under the third call for microprojects of the Interreg South Baltic Programme 2014–2020:
“AquaFOOD” – Potential for diversification and food production from aquatic ecosystems in the South Baltic Region
The project has an international scope and will be implemented in collaboration with partners from Lithuania and Sweden. AquaFOOD aims to analyse optimal methods of alternative food production based on Baltic Sea resources, which can provide jobs and income to local maritime communities already suffering from reduced traditional maritime activities, such as fisheries.
The project's analyses will include solutions for seafood production to support value chains involving coastal communities, SMEs, and other entities involved in the South Baltic supply chain.
AquaFOOD's outcomes aim to develop sustainable and innovative solutions in food production by building workforce capacity and strengthening the blue economy. The project will facilitate collaboration and enhance the impact of research and innovation in developing, supporting, and implementing the EU's blue growth strategy for the Baltic Sea region, while addressing global challenges.
